In this paper we focus on the differences between Eastern and Western European Countries, as regard the correlation between technology (R&D and human capital) and the level as well as the rate of growth of output per capita. First, we found a strong positive connection between technology and the level of GDP per capita, split on two paralel trends corresponding to the two groups of countries considered. Second, we found a negative correlation between technological endowments and the rate of economic growth. This growth pattern will lead to the reduction of the technological and development gap, confirming beta-convergence theory.
