The majority of published research to date focuses on HRM in large organisation. Little is known, however, about the development and implementation of human resource management in small and medium enterprises. In addition to a review of the existing studies, we present data from a survey conducted by the author. A number of 483 SME's were investigated, focusing on the use and effectiveness of HRM practices in small and medium enterprises, and on the effect of education and management training of the entrepreneur upon the size of the firms, the identification of some strategy elaboration and cooperation with consulting firms and experts.
